Studio notes - 10 weeks to go

When I signed up to participate in Herefordshire Art Week, way back in February, it was, quite literally, months and months away. Plenty of time. Loads of time. And yet, here we are, end of June and still 95% of it in my head or in various stages of completion.

Wondering how long it was, as September still seems way off into the future, I made a planner using a big sheet of paper and my felt pen set. I spent a happy half hour in this mindful/mindless activity to find out how many actual weeks. Ah, it’s ten. Barely in double figures. Better crack on!

In the coming weeks, I will share a round-up of the progress in some studio notes. Mostly to keep me accountable and also to give you a sneak peek behind the scenes. Who doesn’t like that?

What went well this week - the Sun Flowers are complete, and the embroidered pieces for the seed pod pouches. These are slow-stitched and use all the tiny pieces saved from other projects.

New ideas - something to do with seed heads using bonded fibre, starting playing with a shape. A new thought for the embroidered pouches in a colourway relating to bees.

Lucky finds - Leominster charity shops never disappoint. I have several ideas that will combine paper and fabric. To fit with the aesthetic I needed something garden-themed and old. A cloth-bound gardening book from 1963 for £1.50 will do nicely.

Struggling with - understanding exactly how the final display will look (worrying ahead of time on this one), getting back onto social media in a way that feels okay and stressing there won’t be enough to display.

Pleased with - posting on social accounts nearly every single day and it not being the stress-fest imagined. Realising that when I make the process is in progress
